We helped BOST find revenue streams to fund the maintenance of this "pocket park" and compiled successful grant applications. Funding also comes from the sports pitches, community use of the "Living Space" building and events on the Green.
Following consultation, an unsustainable water feature was reduced in size to a single cascade and circulation pool. The redundant parts were converted into a rain garden, providing important nectar plants for pollinators and enhancing its asset as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation. A native hedgerow and the planting scheme were added using corporate volunteers. It was a community-generated project; the client had received Arts Funding and decided to make sculptures based on its history as a marshland. Workshops were held with Can of Gas metalworkers in Bethnal Green to help create the giant Fen Raft spider and Migrant Hawker dragonfly. Local nursery and school children participated in planting events, with children as young as 18 months participating through the Family Volunteering Club.
